This wonderful Riesling is from Maison Trimbach, one of the most famous wineries in Alsace, France. They have four levels in their production: Classic , Reserve, Reserve Personnelle, Prestige and Collection. This one goes into the Reserve Personnelle class, which is their Gold Label Class. It is also very easy to differentiate the gold label with the classic and reserve classes where the labels are in classic yellow.
This gold label wine is produced from some of the better slopes of Ribeauville, and carefully selected at harvest. Very Different from the typical rieslings from Alsace. Normally, the rieslings from Alsace are dry , but this one is extremely fruity. From the nose, it gives citric fruits with hints of honey. The wine itself is dry with hints of sweet fruits at first, but after about two hours the acidity decreased a bit but instead, it became very sweet and fruitful and reached a very good balance. I did not expect an eight year old wine to perform this well. I believe it can still be extremely enjoyable for a couple more year for this wine at the same vintage.
DWA Rating: 8.5/10 .....Definitely one of the fabulous wines out there.
FYI:
This is actually one of the wines offered on the Nobel Peace Price Dinner in 2009.
